Transcription of Herbie Nichols' "Wildflower". I haven't
recorded this but I have performed it with
George Garzone on soprano sax. Some very characteristic Herbie aspects.
Check out the chromatically approached Maj. 7 arpeggio in the A
section.
This is one of the most recorded tunes
of Herbie Nichols. The melody and the dominant seventh chord based
harmony really push on each other. I've been working on a solo guitar
arrangement lately, which I might post soon.
An MP3 sample from my CD. This is one of
the first Herbie tunes I transcribed and is still one of my favorites
- the m2nd/M7th intervals of the A sections contrast so well with
the incredible chromatic/intervallic line in the bridge. It's great
fun to play.
An MP3 sample from my CD. The best known
Nichols composition, thanks to Billie Holiday and her same-titled
autobiography. I play a Godin nylon string guitar on this which combines
well with George Garzone's rich tenor sound.
